Class description/introduction

This section introduces students to various issues in OR practice, for example about choices between different types of model, data acquisition and management, modelling and its pitfalls, and the role of scientific analysis in helping with decisions.

Class aims

To give the class a general understanding of OR Methodology as it affects practice.

Learning outcomes

Subject specific knowledge and skills

  • To understand the issues involved in practicing OR, specifically What an OR problem is, what an OR model is, and what is OR process is

Cognitive abilities and non-subject specific skills

  • Ability to synthesise literature

Learning and teaching methods

Short introduction then entirely directed reading.
