Class description/introduction

This class introduces students to the role played by Information Systems in Organisations, within both the private and public sectors. The class will highlight the role that Information Systems play in the Information Economy and Electronic Commerce. Finally, the class will show how Information Systems can aid decision making within organisations.

Class aims

To understand the role played by Information Systems in Organisations in the context of the Information Economy and Electronic Commerce.

Learning outcomes

Subject specific knowledge and skills

  • To understand the role of Information Systems within organisations.
  • To understand how Information Systems are shaping organisational innovations and structures.
  • To appreciate the relationship between Information Systems and decision making within organisations.

Cognitive abilities and non-subject specific skills

  • Ability to synthesis and relate issues to the wider context (economy) within which organisations are located.
